I spent over two years shooting our world architectural heritage without selfie-stick holding tourists. Sometimes I got lucky and no one walked into the frame, but mostly it was due to heavy Photoshop work. With this series, I created a sort of passage for myself to travel back in time and connect with characters you only hear about in history books.
By removing all traces of our time from my pictures, I felt safe. Like I invited myself into a fiction where people don’t exist. It was peaceful and comfortable. But I also found out at my own expense that I was nourishing the void around me, in my real life. So I stopped taking empty pictures after two and a half years - or at least removing people from the photos.
